GREAT FALLS — The Great Falls Americans (7-5-1) won a 13-goal shootout over the Gillette Wild (2-10-1), 8-5, on ‘Think Pink’ weekend at the Great Falls Ice Plex on Saturday night.

The Americans raised money for breast cancer awareness throughout the night. Great Falls even had pink-colored ice during its two-game series with Gillette.

It was a back-and-forth contest, and the first two-goal lead for either side came in the third period as Great Falls pulled away late.

The two teams split the series as Gillette snagged a 5-2 win in the opener on Friday and Great Falls answered with a three-goal victory of its own.

The Wild struck first when Maguire Dewees turned a giveaway at the point into the game’s opening goal.

Less than three minutes later, Great Falls drew even and then moved ahead on a shorthanded goal by Keifer Lundmark.

Gillette tied it 2-2 with 76 seconds left in the first when Dylan Crossley scored from a sharp angle into the opposite top corner.

Great Falls went back in front after a mistake by the Gillette goalie led to Lundmark’s second goal of the night.

After the Wild tied it again, Jarrett Parker sent a centering pass to Paxon Sacre and the Americans carried a 4-3 lead into the second intermission.

EJ Sanchez gave Great Falls its first two-goal edge in the third period. The Americans ran away with it from there as it finished 8-5 at the Great Falls Ice Plex.
