BOZEMAN, Mont., December 14, 2013 — The Great Falls Americans (second in the league behind Helena) led 2-0 against the Bozeman Ice Dogs after the second intermission and then dominated the third and final period by scoring five unanswered goals to boost their overall record to 21-6. Great Falls was able to keep the Ice Dogs from finding the back of the net as the Americans blanked the Bozeman Ice Dogs 7-0 at Haynes Pavilion in Bozeman, MT on Saturday night in the final game for both teams before the AWHL Player’s Showcase begins on Monday night in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Lucas Lomax and Paul Sartuche fed Zachary Mese the puck and his slap-shot got past Bozeman goalie Devin Day for the first goal of the game for the Americans in the first 71 seconds of play. The score remained that way until the 13:45 mark of the second period when Cody Page connected off a pass from Aaron McInnis and Brady Christiaens to increase the Americans lead to 2-0 after 40 minutes of play.
Great Falls dominated the final period as Zachary Mese scored three more goals while Cody Page and Donovan Mattfeldt each added one to their season total. Assisting on the five third period goals were Aaron McInnis with three, Lucas Lomax, who had two, and Cody Page, Erik Gatson and Connor Barta ended the contest with one apiece.
Great Falls never allowed Bozeman to be successful in their seven power play chances. The only power play score was by the Zachary Mese, who scored the final goal for Great Falls with 2:30 remaining.
Despite having 42 minutes of penalties, the Americans registered 32 shots on goal against Bozeman goaltender Devin Day. Day made 25 saves for the last-place Ice Dogs (4-19-2)
