Americans shut-out Gillette for second straight night

GREAT FALLS, Mont., October 5, 2013 — The Great Falls Americans Junior A hockey team continued their winning ways on Saturday night with a 6-0 shut-out against the Gillette Wild. This was their second consecutive night that they didn’t allow Gillette to score after blanking the Wyoming club on Friday night 3-0.

Craig Buford opened up the scoring drive for Great Falls eleven minutes into the AWHL contest. It would only take four more minutes after Buford’s goal for the Americans to score again as Erik Gatson found the back of the net. The Americans wasted little time scoring eight seconds later as Dylan Garton scored one of his two goals on the night unassisted to give his team a 3-0 advantage.

Aaron McInnis, a forward from Anchorage, Alaska, scored the lone goal for either team in the second period. Lucas Stover and Evan Hauser were both credited with the assist on the team’s fourth goal. Hauser, the Americans goaltender, stopped nine of Gillette’s shot attempts.

Garton and McInnis each recorded their second goals on the night in the final period. Brady Christiaens and Zach Mese picked up the assists on Garton’s goal.

The Americans went 1-for-6 on power play opportunities and forced Gillette to rack up 24 minutes in penalties.

The Great Falls Americans sit atop the American West Hockey League standings at 4-0 while the Gillette Wild fall to 3-3.

NEXT CONTEST: Great Falls will see their first road trip of the 2013 season on Thursday, October 10th when they head to Bozeman, MT to face the Bozeman Ice Dogs at 7:30 p.m. at Haynes Pavilion. They return to the Great Falls Ice Plex on Saturday, October 12th to challenge the Billings Bulls.
