HELENA —  Lucas Lomax and Robert Kalata collected third-period goals and guided the Great Falls Americans over the Helena Bighorns 3-1 in a NA3HL Frontier Division matinee Sunday afternoon at the Capital City Ice Arena.

Americans goalie Evan Hauser kep the net nice and tidy until Cody Vanthournout put the biscuit in the basket five minutes into the third stanza. But by then, the Americans were up 2-1. Hauser finished with 32 saves.

Marvin Simmons broke a scoreless tie open with a power play goal off assists from Dylan Garton and Hunter Garris with 90 seconds gone in the second.  Lomax’s goal came two minutes into the third off feeds from Reed Link and Zack Mese, and Kalata scored with help from Adam Apangalook and Lucas Stover with 3:30 left in the match.

The win, Great Falls’ 16th of the season avenges Friday’s 2-1 loss to the Glacier Nationals, just their second of the year.

The Americans won’t play again until Saturday, when they travel to Haynes Pavilion in Bozeman to face the Ice Dogs in a 7:30 p.m. tilt.
