Friday’s NA3HL Frontier Division hockey match between the Missoula Junior Bruins and Great Falls Americans, slated for Friday night at the IcePlex on Gore Hill, was called off because of deteriorating highway conditions.

Snow, blowing snow and temperatures hovering in the single digits below zero made for difficult – if not impossible – travel conditions, Americans’ head coach Jeff Heimel told the Tribune sports writer Lee Vernoy Friday.  The temperature in Great Falls at 6 p.m. Friday night was -7 degrees with a low of 10 below predicted.

Heimel said the league and the teams are working on a mutual date to make up the match, as well as Friday’s contest between the Bozeman IceDogs and the Helena Bighorns at the Helena Ice Arena.

The Americans and Bruins are scheduled to play on the road in Bozeman and Helena, respectively, Saturday night. Saturday’s low temperature in the Electric City is tabbed to reach -18. The Americans-Ice Dogs match is set to drop the puck at 7:35 at Haynes Pavilion in Bozeman.

Great Falls, 18-7-2-0, with 38 points, is six points behind division-leading Yellowstone and two points in back of second-place Helena.  Missoula is fourth at 12-15-1-0 with 25 points.
