Isaac Ellingson took a pass from Hlib Tkach and scored a short-handed gamewinning goal 2:28 into overtime as the Helena Bighorns downed the Great Falls Americans 4-3 in a NA3HL Frontier Division tilt Saturday night at the Great Falls IcePlex on Gore Hill.

Helena and Great Falls split the weekend set, with the Americans securing a 4-2 win on Friday. The Americans now have 13 points with a 6-2-1-0 record, five points behind division- leading Bozeman and just three in back of second-place Gillette. League newcomer Sheridan is fourth with 12 points, followed by Helena, Missoula, Yellowstone and Butte, in that order.

Next weekend’s league matches against the Yellowstone Quake were rescheduled after officials noted a conflict with University of Providence matches over the weekend. The Argos’ schedule against Minot State remains intact, with Friday’s contest at 7:05 p.m. and Saturday’s meet at 7:30, but the Americans will be playing the Quake Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. (instead of 7:30) and Sunday at 1 p.m. (instead of 3).

Ellingson’s goal in overtime came with the Bighorns a man short after Abraham Laggis received a five-minute major penalty for kicking at the end of regulation. Johnny Baird sent the game into an extra period with a shorthanded goal that tied the match at 3-3.
