Gazich’s OT goal boosts Americans past Quake

CODY, Wyo. — Thomas Gazich scored the game-winning goal just 21 seconds into the extra period, giving the Great Falls Americans their first win of the 2021-22 HA3HL Frontier Division season with a 4-3 victory over the Yellowstone Quake Saturday night at Riley Arena.

Gazich’s second goal of the campaign went past Yellowstone netminder Cole Eastman, coming off assists from Hunter Maschke and AJ Benit.

Gazich also had an assist on the tally that sent the game into overtime, when he fed the puck to Micah Serino for his second goal of the season at the 16:40 mark of the third stanza.

Jackson Henningsgard and Aaron Leaf also scored their first goals for the Americans (1-1-0-0, 2 points), with assists from Noel Rahn and Petr Van Voorhis, respectively. Leaf’s score came two minutes before Serino tied the match, while Henningsgard got his goal 8½ minutes into the second period.

Zac Hattan saved 33 shots out of 36 Yellowstone tries to get the victory.

Keegan Ferguson, Brandon Kididis and Cameron Deforest had goals for the Quake (1-0-1-0, 3 points), who trail division-leading Helena by one point after two games in the season.

The Americans have one contest next weekend, Saturday night against the Bozeman Icedogs at Haynes Pavilion in Bozeman at 7:30.
