GREAT FALLS – Henry Chavez scored a pair of goals, including what proved to be the winning goal in the third period, to lead the Great Falls Americans to a 3-2 win over the Helena Bighorns in NA3HL Frontier Division play Friday night at the Ice Plex.

His second goal of the game, a power-play goal off assists by Alex Jackson and Cole Komarek, put the Americans (3-0-0-0, 6 points) up 3-1 with 6½ minutes left

Andrew Deskin brought Helena (0-3-0-0) to within a goal with four minutes left and pulled their goalie in the final minute  but could not get the equalizer goal.

Chavez also scored in the second stanza off an assist by Jackson, and Bryson Fletcher tallied a goal early in the third to give Great Falls a lead they would not relinquish.

Trever Mellen got the win in net for the Americans, saving 27 or 29 shot attempts. The Americans outshot Helena 45-29.

Great Falls was facing the Bozeman Icedogs Saturday night in Bozeman.
