Ice issues force Americans to move home opener

This weekend’s home opener for the Great Falls Americans Junior A hockey club won’t be played at home.

Leaking pipes beneath the ice surface at the Great Falls Ice Plex on Gore Hill has forced the Americans to move their slated home series against the Gillette Wild to Spirit Hall Ice Arena in the Wyoming city.

Repairs to the pipes are ongoing, but are not expected to be completed until sometime in early to mid-October. This could also affect next Thursday’s scheduled home match against the Helena Bighorns, as well as next weekend’s series against the Sheridan Hawks.

Following their shootout loss at Bozeman last Saturday, the Americans sit in fifth place in the NA3HL Frontier Division with three points and a record of 1-1-0-1.
