GREAT FALLS – The Great Falls Americans defeated the Billings Bulls 5-0 Saturday behind Lucas Lomax’s two goals – one power play and one shorthanded.

Zach Mese, Malachi Bushey and Wade Wylie all found the back of the net as well. Lauren Massie, the Americans’ goaltender, stopped all 19 shots he faced.

The Americans, who entered the home contest with a 29-8-2 record, snapped a five-game losing streak Friday night with 7-0 blanking of the Glacier Nationals.

“We’ve had some pretty good games lately, and we’ve just gotten back to what we were doing to be successful,” Great Falls coach Jeff Heimel said.

Coming into Saturday, the Americans, who play rival Helena today at 4 p.m. at the IcePlex, had just a two-point lead on the Bighorns in the Frontier Division.

Great Falls prevailed Saturday night in front of 821 loud fans at the IcePlex. The Americans have now won 16 of 20 inside the IcePlex this season.

Lomax got his second power play goal in as many nights as he opened up the first period scoring drive for the Americans off a pass from Robert Kalata and Cody Page. The Americans first points of the night came at the 12:28 mark. The first stanza saw a combined 10 minor penalties. Great Falls had 17 of the 21 shots on goal before the first intermission.

Great Falls converted two of their 10 power plays while the Bulls were unsuccessful in their attempts (0-4).
