GREAT FALLS, Mont., September 22, 2017 — After an opening night win on home ice last weekend, the Great Falls Americans resumed play in the NA3HL junior hockey league on Friday night.

Their opponent tonight was the Helena Bighorns.

The Americans needed only two goals to propel them to a 2-0 win against the Bighorns from Helena, Montana on Friday night at the Great Falls Ice Plex.

Payton McSharry and Kody Thomas, both returners from last season’s squad, connected on the second period goals after a quiet first period. Great Falls doubled up Helena in the shots-on-goal category (21-10) after two periods. Brandon Peterson, Matt Janke and Logan Rachow assisted.

Six minor penalties were witnessed by the 626 fans at the Great Falls Ice Plex with all of them coming during the final 40 minutes of play.

Mack Willy had a sensational night in the net by stopping all 25 shots that the Helena offense attempted. Eric Berglund suffered the loss for Helena by allowing two goals in the middle stanza.

The Americans took seven more shots than the Bighorns (32-25)

The four power plays failed to provide either team with points.

NEXT CONTEST: The Americans and Bighorns will duel it out on the ice again on Saturday, September 23rd with a 7:30PM start in Great Falls.
