The NA3HL gives out “Season Awards” at the end of each season. The awards are given to the top performing players in each division and in the entire North American 3 Hockey League.

 

Americans goaltender Scites among 2017-18 NA3HL Award Winners

FRISCO, TX., April 20, 2018 — The Great Falls Americans had one player that was honored in the North American 3 Hockey League’s (NA3HL) League Awards for the 2017-18 season.

Great Falls finished off the regular season with a 34-11-2-0 record before falling in two games to the Yellowstone Quake in the Best-of-Three Frontier Divisional Semi-Finals.

The divisional awards included Most Valuable Player (MVP), Forward, Defenseman and Goaltender of the Year, Rookie of the Year along with Community Service, Leadership and Academic Awards and the All-Division teams. The coaches and the general managers voted on the awards based on performance during the 2017-18 season.

The league awards were also based on performance and voted on by the head coaches and general managers in the league including Most Valuable Player (MVP), Forward of the Year, Defenseman of the Year, Goaltender of the Year, Rookie of the Year, Coach of the Year, General Manager of the Year and Organization of the Year. Other awards that were recognized this year were the All-NA3HL 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and All-Rookie teams, Community Service and Leadership Academic Award winners.

Drew Scites was awarded the 2017-18 Goaltender of the Year in the NA3HL, and he was also the top goaltender in the NA3HL’s Frontier Division. Scites, who is from Plymouth, Minnesota, was also named to the 2017-18 All-NA3HL and All-Frontier Division First Team squads.

Scites compiled a 11-0-0-0 record for Great Falls along with a 9-0-0-0 record with the North Iowa Bulls, who he played for earlier in the season before the Americans acquired him. The Americans standout earned 357 saves (an additional 183 with North Iowa) in a Great Falls uniform, and he had a save percentage of 0.965. Drew appeared in all three games for the Grey Team (Frontier and West Division) and recorded 34 saves at the 2018 Top Prospects Tournament held in Plymouth, Michigan in February.

He suffered an overtime loss to the Yellowstone Quake in his only postseason appearance for the Americans while accumulating 37 saves. (0.902 save percentage).
